DIRECTED GIVING
Each academic year, North Cross has two aims: to provide the best education we can for students here today and to look to the horizon so we many continue to improve for our future. The Annual Fund supports both of these goals through the School's annual operating budget. As an independent school, North Cross receives no government funding and relies on tuition and charitable gifts as the primary source of funding. If you would like to make an unrestricted gift to the Annual Fund, you have the opportunity to direct your unrestricted gift to a budget-relieving area you value (see options below).

Area of Greatest need
Knowing your gift will make a difference to our students and help us offer exceptional learning and developmental experiences, you may leave it up to the School to allocate your gift in support of its annual operations, including each of the areas described below.
Arts and Yearbook
What the arts department brings to each student and to our community is seen in tangible ways, certainly, but in intangible ways as well. It is an important part of the independent school model each student experiences. Our budget includes licensing fees for our theater performances, and the daily supplies such as music, canvas, paper, clay, paints, brushes, and pencils. We also allocate money to support our award-winning yearbook.
Athletics
To maintain the broad array of athletic teams and offer all Middle and Upper School students the opportunity to participate, our budget includes the money needed for a variety of resources that may include: coaches, referees, drivers, as well as the maintenance of our existing uniforms and equipment, or purchase new ones when they are needed.
CrossWalk
We’re thankful for the difference Orton Gillingham instruction makes in the lives of our CrossWalk students. As you may know, this highly tailored instruction is critical to a student’s development and families pay additional tuition for their children. In the past, we have raised funds independently to provide tuition support to CrossWalk students. Again this year, we plan to raise money through our Annual Fund to support CrossWalk.
WELCOMING & SAFE CAMPUS
The Annual Fund helps North Cross ensure a school culture where everyone feels physically safe and emotionally supported, as well as an environment where students and faculty thrive.
Professional Development
Our teachers deliver an excellent education to our students each and every day. To help faculty and staff grow professionally, our budget includes important professional development for employees from Ellis, Eaton, and Willis Halls, such as tuition assistance for faculty who are working towards their master’s at Hollins University.

Appreciated stock
Securities such as stocks and bonds can be used to make charitable gifts to North Cross. You are entitled to a charitable deduction (both income tax and estate or gift tax) equal to the mean trading value of the securities on the date of the gift. One of the principal benefits of a gift of securities is that any appreciation is exempt from capital gains taxes.

Electronic transfer is the preferred and simplest method for stock transfer. First, notify Tia Byrd in the Development Office, 540-989-6641, ext. 284 or tbyrd@jaguartjcn.com. Second, have your broker call or email Jodie Wertz at the Roanoke office of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney 540-983-4907 or Jodie.Wertz-sutphin@morganstanley.com to advise her of the symbol or security description, approximate number and value of shares you intend to give, and if you want the gift to be for any special purpose.
